UKBJJA Courses

The UKBJJA runs a range of courses designed to assist instructors, help individuals develop and deepen their knowledge of BJJ or enhance their own training, or provide vocational opportunities. 

First Aid

Members can take a first aid course run by Safeaid Services. This is a  QA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support for Adults and Children (QCF) . This 3 hour course will be tailored around the risks a BJJ club will face but also gives the security of a regulated qualification and a certificate. Cost: £45 (including all course materials and certificate)

You can book on one of the preset dates for this course; held at Safeaid 's full time training suite in West Midlands. Please check our events page for details. Courses can be run at clients own venues throughout UK but in this instance please contact us for a quote to cover the extra travel costs.

Child Protection Course

Length of Course: 4 hours

Cost: £40 for members, £60 for non-members


Child Protection courses are run by our Child Protection Officer James McIntyre. 
The UKBJJA Child Protection Course will cover the following areas: -
1) The role of the Club Child Protection Officer. Establishing club child protection policy, ensuring parents/ guardians are aware of your existence and how to contact you, ensuring you have forms for recording incidents and a log for keeping track of incidents.
2) Child Abuse: - What is it and what are the signs. We will look at the main forms of abuse and the telltale signs that you need to watch out for.
3) Dealing with allegations in the correct manner. Correct procedures for recording allegations, how to handle a disclosure from a child, who to contact in the event of a disclosure/incident.
There will be time for a Q&A session at the end.

Referee Training - Theoretical Course and Exam

Length of Course: 6 hours

Cost: £40 for members, £60 for non-members


Courses are run by head referee Dave Coles and cover all aspects of rules and competitions

The course is a  full day 6-hour referee course which ends with a theory exam. The full course  must be completed before taking the theory exam. Candidates are permitted three attempts to pass the theory exam after which they must retake the referee course.
The Pass mark for the theory exam is 90%
A maximum of
1 hour is allowed to complete theory exam.
The full referee course must be undertaken and the theory exam must be passed before undertaking the practical assessment


Nutritional Seminar

Length of Course: 2 hours

Cost: £25

Content: All the essentials for good nutrition for BJJ.

  • Alcohol
  • Fuelling your training - what to eat and when to eat it
  • Recipes and meal planning
  • Q&A

Courses are run by nutritional experts Ben and Kirsty Sulston. 

Strength and Conditioning Seminar

Length of Course: 4 hours

Courses are devised and run by our Strength and Conditioning team headed up by Russel Board.

Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Seminar

Length of Course: 4 hours
