Disability is something that allowances need to be made for at times, but by allowances I mean understanding and assistance where it’s needed. It does not mean hand outs and freebies. My aim would be encourage involvement from anyone with a disability, to provide an advice line for coaches that need assistance with a disabled student and for the organisation of select events to cater for disabled divisions.
As Europe’s first disabled black belt in BJJ, I’ve had a front-row seat to the incredible evolution of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu over 15 years in the sport. I’ve witnessed its growth first hand, and now, as I look toward the future, I’m particularly excited to focus my energy on the development of the sport.
I am a firm believer in the benefits of BJJ for everyone, regardless of age, background, or ability. It builds confidence, discipline, and resilience. As a representative, I will be an honest and outspoken voice for the benefit of its athletes. I will champion their needs, celebrate their successes, and work tirelessly to ensure they have the resources and support necessary to thrive.
Qualifications/ relevant professional experience
- Club owner and camp organiser for over 10 years, training for over 15.
- Europe’s 1st disabled black belt.
