Club: Lake District BJJ Academy – England North
Belt: Black – 2nd degree
For 15 years, I’ve had a front-row seat to the incredible evolution of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve witnessed its growth first hand, and now, as I look toward the future, I’m particularly excited to focus my energy on the development of the sport in the north of England. I believe that with the right support, the northern BJJ community can reach unprecedented heights.
My primary goal is to actively bridge the gap between the UK Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association (UKBJJA) and our local competitive scene. I want to help competitions in the north join the UKBJJA ranking system, providing our athletes with the recognition they deserve. A formalized ranking system will not only motivate competitors but also create a clearer pathway for progression and open up new opportunities.
Beyond integrating with the wider UK BJJ community, I am deeply committed to supporting our competitors directly. I plan to establish a program that offers funded or partially funded training camps for both adults and youth. Many talented athletes in the north face financial barriers that prevent them from accessing elite training and preparation. By easing this burden, we can empower our competitors to perform at their best on a national and international stage.
The north of England has a history of being overlooked in the development of BJJ, yet despite this, our community is stronger than ever. The resilience and passion of our athletes and coaches are truly inspiring. With more direct involvement and support from the UKBJJA, this strength can be amplified, leading to a new era of growth and success.
I am a firm believer in the benefits of BJJ for everyone, regardless of age, background, or ability. It builds confidence, discipline, and resilience. As a representative, I will be an honest and outspoken voice for the benefit of the north of England and all its athletes. I will champion their needs, celebrate their successes, and work tirelessly to ensure they have the resources and support necessary to thrive. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected, and more competitive BJJ community in the north.
