I am standing for Scottish Director of the UKBJJA as I believe the values I hold high in my personal life mirror those that should be represented by a Director of the UKBJJA. Honesty, fairness and integrity are the foundations which I build my personal and business life upon.
I have over 10 years refereeing experience and I am actively involved with Scottish Grappling being a core team member and recognised figure on the Scottish BJJ scene and have experience in sub only rule sets also.
Through my refereeing I have earned a reputation for reliability, consistency and diplomacy and hold myself to a high standard. By doing this I have achieved the UKBJJA Level 1 referee qualification and am an active Head referee for Scottish Grappling, Empire Grappling and Team Police UK. I am also an active competitor whenever possible.
As a current serving Police Officer holding the rank of Detective Constable I implement safeguarding measures through liaising with multiple partner agencies and building a rapport with them due to sharing a common goal.
I have been serving for over 14 years and I am trained in Data protection and a Management of Police Information and as such understand the legal requirements in relation to disclosure and retention of information and sensitive information held by an organisation.
I have acquired various additional supplementary training skills and I am trained in Lifelines allows me to support my colleagues who may be struggling with personal issues and highlight partner agency support that also may be available to them.
On taking up the role of Chair person of the Police Team Scotland BJJ section I have actively sought opportunities to improve the availability and level of training for Police and Police staff throughout the UK. I advocate the benefits to physical and mental health from practicing BJJ and I offer regular classes and seminars to all serving Officer and Staff.
I organised and co-ordinated the 2024 Police Sport UK and Team Police BJJ Gi and No Gi Championships, which was the first to be held in Scotland. Since doing so I have taken up the role of Vice Chair of Team Police UK.
I regularly chair section meetings and address any issues and seek opportunities for improvement where possible and brief upwards liaising with the Chief Executive officer of SPRA.
In my personal life I am the father to a child with Autism which has given me a better understanding of neurodiversity and additional support that a neurodiverse person may need in a learning environment. From applying this in daily life it allows me to utilise it in a learning and teaching environment for BJJ.
As Scottish Director I will maintain my personal values in everything I do and will champion opportunities for neurodiverse persons and under-represented persons.

- Experience hosting, organising and co-ordinating Police Sport UK and Team Police BJJ Gi and No Gi championships.
- Chairing Police Scotland BJJ meetings, addressing points and identifying opportunities to overcome barriers to training BJJ and increasing the awareness of the benefits both for physical and mental health for Police Officers and Police staff.
- Actively seeking opportunities to develop the skill set of serving officers by arranging seminars taken by Police and non Police Black Belts.
- Providing support to Police and Non Police referees to improve the overall level of officiating provided.
- Active Head referee for Scottish Grappling, Empire Grappling and Team Police UK.
