2025 CANDIDATE FOR SECRETARY – JAKE CROSS

Club: Stealth BJJ – Bolton, England North
Belt: Blue

am standing for the position of Secretary within the UKBJJA because I believe in the power of strong organisation, clear communication, and grassroots growth to ensure Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and submission grappling continue to thrive across the UK.

For the past 14 years, I have run Empire Grappling, building it from the ground up into a respected series of events that give practitioners of all levels the chance to test themselves in a safe, professional, and welcoming environment. I have always focused on accessibility and opportunity, making sure that newcomers, juniors, hobbyists, and aspiring competitors all feel they have a place on the mats.

Through these years of organising, I have gained a deep understanding of what our community needs to flourish. I know first-hand the challenges faced by athletes, coaches, and event organisers. I have developed the skills necessary to manage logistics, communicate clearly, and create structures that support growth at every level. I also work closely with other event organisers, recognising the importance of collaboration to strengthen our sport nationwide.

Along with the North of England, I am proud to currently run the biggest grappling event in Northern Ireland and over the past four years, I have worked hard to train and mentor the next generation of officials. Bringing together athletes, coaches, referees, and organisers, I have been proud to play a role in uniting and growing the jiu jitsu community there.

As Secretary, I will bring this same dedication, organisation, and care to the role. I want to ensure the UKBJJA continues to be a professional, transparent, and approachable body that listens to its members and supports the grassroots clubs and practitioners who are the backbone of our sport.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has given me so much, and I am passionate about giving back by helping to create strong foundations for its future. With your support, I will work to make sure the UKBJJA remains responsive, efficient, and committed to serving the community, from the smallest club to the biggest stage.

If elected, my key commitments will be to:

• Ensure clear and timely communication between the UKBJJA and its members.

• Support and strengthen grassroots initiatives, from local clubs to regional competitions.

• Bring my 14 years of event management experience to help improve organisation and professionalism across UKBJJA operations.

• Champion accessibility and inclusion, making sure our sport is welcoming to all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

• Keep the UKBJJA focused on its role as a supportive, member-driven organisation that serves the community first.

Thank you for considering me for your vote.
