My name is Casandra (Kas), I am a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt. I train and compete regularly, and at my club I lead the women’s class and help to teach kids’ classes. I am passionate about creating welcoming spaces where women and young athletes can grow in confidence and skill. I also organised a women’s self-defence workshop to encourage participation, as this was how I first discovered jiu jitsu myself.
Outside of training, I work as a Financial Accountant in an international company and I am part of the Equity Committee, where I focus on women’s development and equal opportunities. This has given me experience in leadership, organisation, and supporting projects that promote growth and inclusion.
As Chair of the Women’s Committee, my aim is to grow opportunities for women in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu across the UK. I want to support clubs to develop women’s classes, encourage participation and retention, and promote pathways for female practitioners in competition and leadership. I also want to create spaces for networking and mentoring, where women can connect, share experiences, and inspire each other
For me, jiu jitsu is more than a sport – it is a way to build confidence, improve fitness, and create community. My goal is to help more women experience these benefits and feel part of a strong and supportive network.
Qualifications/ relevant professional experience
- Lead the women’s class at my club and also help to teach kids’ classes, which has given me experience in coaching, building confidence, and creating a welcoming environment.
- Organised a self-defence workshop for women to encourage participation and empower more women to try martial arts.
- Professionally, I work as a Financial Accountant in an international company and I am part of the Equity Committee, where I focus on women’s development and equal opportunities. This role has strengthened my skills in leadership, teamwork, and delivering initiatives that promote growth and inclusion.
