UKBJJA Councillors – Roles & Responsibilities

The Councillor role is an active one,  implementing and delivering the strategy of the UKBJJA as outlined by the Board of Directors, on a voluntary basis. The Council meets at least once a year to consider the report of the Board of Directors. Election to the Council shall normally last for 4 years. All Council Officers shall be permitted to stand for re-election (excepting Council Officers who are also Directors).

All Councillors:

  • Must be Members of the UKBJJA, and if a club owner/promoter their business(es) also members at time of election
  • Must abide by Constitution, Code of Conduct and all relevant UKBJJA Policies
  • Must act within powers granted by UKBJJA Constitution
  • Must exercise reasonable care, skill and diligence
  • Must have good standing and reputation in the UKBJJA Community and must not bring the UKBJJA into disrepute
  • Must act in a way most likely to promote success of Association for the benefit of its members and other stakeholders
  • Must have appropriate skills, qualifications or experience for the position applied for
  • Must not use position for personal gain or abuse of power
  • Must declare potential conflicts of interest
  • Must pass appropriate background checks (e.g. Enhanced DBS; AccessNI; PVG; Disclose Scotland)
  • Must complete Safeguarding and other training as required by the UKBJJA and have a track record of upholding good safeguarding practice
  • Must attend 1 Council meeting per year
  • Must be committed to volunteering 20 hours quarterly as required by the association


South of England Officer

Supports the Regional Development Director for England in local outreach and regional growth of the UKBJJA, and ensuring regional activities are compliant with relevant local laws and relevant local sports council guidance.

Supports the National Championships and organises/ co-organises one regional event per quarter to increase participation locally (including but not limited to junior development camps, kids competition events, national training events etc).
