Excitement Grows Ahead of First UKBJJA Scottish Nationals

One of the largest UK BJJ competitions is launched, offering athletes a further opportunity to compete at an elite level in the UK.

The first-ever UKBJJA Scottish National competition will take place in Lanarkshire this April. The county is no stranger to nurturing sporting success, it is the area that produced the famous three kings of British football: Stein, Busby & Shankly.

This exciting event is the first in a series of regional and international events taking place across the UK as the UKBJJA competition calendar kicks off into full swing.

Since Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu received full sports recognition, the UKBJJA as its official governing body has pushed forward with its strategic goals including growing Jiu-Jitsu across the UK. What better way to do that than further strengthening what is historically a hotbed for UK Jiu-Jitsu in the ancestral home of the Gracie family, with the first UKBJJA nationals.

The competition, which takes place on April 16th and 17th at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility Motherwell, is open to UKBJJA members only, non-members can sign-up when they register, competitors wishing to register can book onto the competition here.

James McIntyre, UKBJJA Regional Director, Scotland said: “Scotland has a thriving BJJ scene and Lanarkshire famously led the way for the UKBJJA Internation Open when it hosted its inaugural event in Motherwell in 2018. We’re excited to host another prestigious competition that promises to showcase some of the best BJJ talent in the UK”

Neil Williams, UKBJJA Chairperson Said: “ Regional opportunities are vital to the development and growth of BJJ in the UK and these events are just one of the ways in which the UKBJJA are working hard to support our members at a regional, more local level. The Scottish Open is a highly prestigious event and James has a wealth of experience in delivering BJJ competitions so we know competitors are guaranteed a high-quality event with high calibre and exciting matches. ”
