DBS CHECKS

(Disclosure Scotland / Access NI)

Everybody who instructs, coaches, referees or volunteers in jiu jitsu needs to be vetted to ensure there is no legal reason preventing them from working with children or vulnerable adults. Therefore all UKBJJA club/instructor/asst. instructor members MUST have a clear Enhanced DBS (England/Wales), PVG (Scotland), or Access NI (Northern Ireland) certificate before being accepted for membership.

All checks must be carried out by the UKBJJA through our DBS & Access NI partner, Vibrant Nation, except for members in Scotland (see below)

Scottish members: all criminal record checks must be applied through Disclosure Scotland/PVG via the UKBJJA direct http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/disclosureinformation/pvgscheme.htm
Please contact James McIntyre for further information james.mcintyre@ukbjja.org

How does it work?

Complete the form below and we will set up an online application form for you with our DBS partner.

They will email you a link to their online application process. Verification of ID documents is done at your local post office.

What does it cost?

Enhanced DBS checks cost £68 for anybody who is paid for their BJJ work (e.g. instructors, referees, admin staff). For pure volunteers, the cost is £20. This cost includes a post office verification fee.

Fees are payable at the end of the process directly to our DBS partner. The UKBJJA does not profit in any way.

How often do I need to renew the certificate?

Your DBS check must be less than three years old. To avoid having to pay the full amount again, you can register with the DBS Update Service. This costs £13 per year and must be done within 30 days of receiving your certificate.

Can I use an existing certificate from my employer?

Enhanced checks carried out by other providers/employers will only be accepted if you have previously signed up for the DBS Update service . You must give your consent to the UKBJJA to access your details. You can do this via the form below.
