We’re excited to have Samantha Cook, Nia Blackman, and Christine Martin, three of the UK’s top female Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitors, leading the sessions. This is a rare opportunity to learn elite-level techniques, positional strategies, and competition insights from some of the best women in the sport.
Training Format:
- We will have three instructors, each leading a 45-minute session.
- Samantha Cook and Christine Martin will teach in the gi, focusing on key fundamentals and advanced techniques.
- Nia Blackman will teach no-gi, sharing her expertise in submission grappling and competition strategies.

Christine Martin
2nd Degree BJJ Black Belt | IBJJF European Champion | Paediatric Physiotherapist
Christine Martin is a 2nd-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and also holds a black belt in Japanese Ju Jitsu. She has been training and competing in BJJ since the age of 15, achieving multiple national and international titles.

Beyond the mats, Christine is a Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist, balancing her career, training, and competition success. She recently returned to high-level competition after a 5-year break to raise her two children, proving that dedication and perseverance always pay off!
Samantha Cook
BJJ Black Belt | IBJJF European Champion | ADCC European Trials Winner
Samantha Cook is a highly decorated BJJ black belt, coach, and competitor with a reputation for technical precision and dominance on the competition scene. She is the head coach at Royal Jiu Jitsu Birmingham and has been a key figure in the development of women’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the UK.

Samantha’s journey into BJJ started with judo and equestrian sports before she transitioned into grappling at age 21. Her dedication to coaching and competing has made her one of the most respected female BJJ athletes in the UK.
Nia BlackmanBJJ Black Belt | ADCC European Trials Champion | Rising Star in Women’s BJJ
Nia Blackman is one of the fastest-rising stars in women’s BJJ, known for her explosive grappling style and elite-level competition success. Training under Checkmat, Nia has established herself as one of the UK’s most promising black belts.
Career Highlights:
✔ ADCC European Trials Champion (over 65kg division, earning her spot at ADCC Worlds)
✔ IBJJF No-Gi European Silver Medalist
✔ Double Gold at the London Open (weight & open class)
Nia has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since the age of five and has recently earned her black belt in June 2024. She continues to dominate the international circuit, proving to be a force in both gi and no-gi competition.
