The Councillor role is an active one, implementing and delivering the strategy of the UKBJJA as outlined by the Board of Directors, on a voluntary basis. The Council meets at least once a year to consider the report of the Board of Directors. Election to the Council shall normally last for 4 years. All Council Officers shall be permitted to stand for re-election (excepting Council Officers who are also directors.)
All Councillors:
- Must be Members of the UBJJA, and if a club owner/promoter their business(es) also members at time of election
- Must abide by Constitution and all relevant UKBJJA Policies
- Must act within powers granted by UKBJJA Constitution
- Must exercise reasonable care, skill and diligence
- Must act in a way most likely to promote success of Association for the benefit of its members and other stakeholders
- Must have appropriate skills, qualifications or experience for the position applied for
- Must not use position for personal gain
- Must declare potential conflicts of interest
- Must pass appropriate background checks (e.g. Enhanced DBS; AccessNI; PVG; Disclose Scotland)
- Must complete Safeguarding and other training as required by the UKBJJA
- Must attend 1 Council meeting per year
- Must be committed to volunteering 20 hours quarterly as required by the association
Electable Council Positions include but not exclusively:
Regional Council Officers
Supports the Regional Development Director in local outreach and regional growth of the UKBJJA, and ensuring regional activities are compliant with relevant local laws and relevant local sports council guidance.
Supports the National Championships and organises/ co-organises one regional event per quarter to increase participation locally (including but not limited to junior development camps, kids competition events, national training events etc).

- Northern Scotland Officer (Highlands, Aberdeen, Moray, and surrounding areas)
- Southern Scotland Officer (Central Belt, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayrshire, and the Borders)
Specialised Council Officers

- Junior Development Officer (National Role): This role focuses on the development of athletes under 18 within the UKBJJA. The Junior Development Officer will work closely with the Regional Council representatives to organize and deliver youth training camps, create pathways for young athletes, and develop programs that support the progression of junior competitors from grassroots to elite levels. This role mirrors the responsibilities of the Performance Officers but specifically targets youth development. Must be appropriately qualified and cleared to work with under-18s, including required safeguarding training.
- Armed Forces Officer: Representative for armed forces personnel, ensuring their needs and availability are considered in training and competition planning.

- Chair of Women’s Committee: To organise and chair the UKBJJA’s women’s committee to provide a voice for women within the association, promote female participation and to progress women’s initiatives.

- Disability Inclusion Officer: To spearhead the development of disability inclusion and partnerships with the UKBJJA and organised dedicated disability Jiu jitsu camps.

- Elite Performance Officer: Develops performance pathways for competitive athletes. Responsible for organising elite training camps and providing support services, including strength and conditioning programs, nutrition guidance and mental preparation.

- Welfare and Equality: To monitor welfare and equality across the UKBJJA, and spearhead projects and initiatives.
